In addition to the files that run PPP and perform the automated log in to the PPP server, there are a number of text configuration files that have to be set up for your computer to be able to resolve names like www.interweft.com.au to the IP address that is actually used to contact that computer. These are:-
/etc/resolv.conf
/etc/host.conf
Section Chapter 13 for details on setting this up.
In particular, you do NOT need to run a name server on your Linux PC in order to connect to the Internet (although you may wish to). All you need is to know the IP number of at least one name server that you can use (preferably one at your ISPs site).
