Could you describe the current state of internet technology - other > technology related to the use of internet - being deployed in Indonesia, > compared to that used in neighboring countries. As you may expect mostly dial-up ... *DSL technology via our telco is not in favour due to its high cost .. Most corporate networks & high speed Internet Cafes are now using wireless 2-11Mbps on 2.4GHz ISM Band, which is much lower cost than *DSL services offered by the Indonesian telco. Cooprerative movement is being set within Indonesian Internet Cafe operators our discussion group is located at asosiasi-warnet@egroups.com It helds the discussion of its 800+ active members. Several investment agencies & venture capitalists are now working with these cooperative to expand the currently 1000+ Internet Cafes in Indonesia .. Based on MarkPlus & SWA Magazine research in early 2000 Internet Cafe seems to be the access point by 60-70% of Internet users in Indonesia > > 2. How do you rate the quality of services and facilities offered by local > online shopping providers compared to those operating overseas? What are the > underlying factors (technology, socioeconomic?) to the differences? Most of the online shopping providers are currently working hard to serve at the same QoS as those overseas ... However, most of the Indonesian online shopping providers have to struggle with the many credit card froud & system cracker attack not to mention the slow & not favourable physical goods delivery systems .. > > 3. Is it really, really safe, easy and convenient to buy stuffs through the > internet, especially from local online shopping providers? Online shopping is safe ... Most of the credit card number are stolen at the restourants, hotels, shops etc. While the carders are exchanging the stolen credit card number during their IRC sessio on the Internet ... thus, online shopping providers are not the one who steal the number. Easy & convenient is true for Indonesian destinations for overseas destinations, we have to ask the provider first to deliver the goods through DHL or other high quality delivery services. > > 4. How do you see the opportunity of online shopping business to succeed in > Indonesia? to be honest, it is very difficult to put Indonesian as good online customer Best on MarkPlus & SWA research in early 2000 only 9.9% of their respondent is willing to buy online due to various reasons most of the online shoppers will mostly spent their money only once a month ... I have sent my article publish in Media Indonesia B2C online shopping is not favourable in Indonesia B2B transactions such as between handycraft producers in Bali with their distributor in Europe is actually more realistics & favourable in Indonesian Internet transactions ... > > 5. Do you have any current figures of numbers of computer and internet > users, online shoppers, online shopping providers, and volume of online > shopping transactions? I have only number of computer approx. 2 million internet users approx 1.5 million at this level, it is not of interest for having online shopping .. again most of these people are actually doing B2B transaction rather than B2C online shopping > > 6. How far would the figures of each category above grow in the coming > years? We are hoping to see 20 million users within 3-4 years work is currently underway at post & telecommunication to lay down the path towards 20 million Indonesian Internet users by connecting most of the indonesian educated people .. B2B transaction would be the dominant revenue in Indonesian Internet even now some of my colleagues are getting US$ hundred thousand each month through the Internet B2B ... meaning between supplier, vendor, producer, distributor but not directly to the end users (which is B2C). > > 7. How far do you think people's interest and actual demand for online > shopping service will develop in the next years? Not much ... Most of the people is actually making money from B2B not B2C .. > > 8. What do you think should be done in order to help the introduction of > online shopping 'habit' within Indonesians, or allow online shopping > providers enjoy a better business? Well, I think it has more due to lack of money to spent on online shopping (B2C) as most of the Indonesian users are young 19-25 years old & have not much money in their pocket to spent on B2C .. they rather buy things from the local grocery shops :-) ... > > 9. Lastly, would you care to give some advises to customers so that they > could really enjoy and make the best use of online shopping services? Hmmm some advice ... To be honest, I've never done online shopping myself as not much money to spent online .. But I think if you have little time to do your groceries & lots of money online shopping might be the right choice for you :-) ... I have a servent at home to go to the market for daily activities & some spare time with my wife to go to the mall & spent a good family time at the mall :-) .. thus, not much incentive for me to do online shopping :-) .. ups what an advice eh :-) .. > > Thanks again. > > > > > > _____________________________________________________________________________________ > Get more from the Web.
