Motoo Kusakabe is senior counsellor to
the President of the EBRD (European Bank for Reconstruction
and Development), and the founder of E-Community Link
(non-profit organization to bridge the Digital Divide).
He retired from the World Bank as the
Vice-President for Resource Mobilization and Co-financing
January 2003, and spent half a year in Stanford University,
Digital Vision Fellowship Program as a visiting scholar.
He joined the World Bank in 1997. Mr.
Kusakabe has been responsible for mobilizing concessional and
grant resources for the Bank's operations in poor countries
and for donor relationship. He led the Bank's initiative to
promote global partnership programs as the Chair of the
Council of Development Grant Facility, and has been
instrumental in drumming up support for the ICT and
Development, community-driven initiatives and has promoted
partnership with NGOs and foundations. He initiated
Global/Local Connectivity Workshop in December 2000, and
promoted the Community Telecenters in the World Bank. He also
worked for the telecenter component of the E-Sri Lanka project
of the World Bank.
He is now working for the EBRD as the
senior counsellor to the President, advising on quality of the
projects and coordinating ICT strategy of the EBRD.
Mr. Kusakabe had a long and distinguished career and held key
positions at the Japanese Ministry of Finance including Deputy
Commissioner of National Tax Administration and Deputy
Director-General of Banking Bureau in charge of financial
sector reform.
He has a M.A.in Mathematics at the
University of Tokyo and M.Phil in economics at Yale
University.
